The Top Ski Resorts Near Our Apartments in Orem
There are some major advantages to living in our apartments in Orem, Utah. You'll love the small town feel but still enjoy the conveniences of other nearby suburbs as well as the proximity to Salt Lake City. This winter, you can hit the slopes at several top notch ski resorts within an hour (give or take a few minutes). Here are the highlights of four Wasatch ski areas. If you purchase an Ikon Pass you can really get your money's worth and take advantage of the thrilling Utah mountains.
In Big Cottonwood Canyon you'll find Solitude Mountain which has eight chairlifts, 80 runs, and three bowls spread out on its 1,200 acres. There are snowboarding and skiing runs for all skill levels, as well as 10 kilometers of snowshoe trails. Once you've worked up an appetite, choose from 10 dining options ranging from buffet-style to fine dining. If you decide to spend the night, you can choose from condos, townhomes, the inn, or hotel-style rooms.
There are 66 runs and 6 lifts on just over 1,000 acres of terrain at Brighton. Rental packages include skis or snowboards, boots, and poles; they do not rent goggles, jackets, or outerwear. There are three eateries on site, as well as a coffee shop and a picnic area. The 20 room Brighton Lodge is conveniently located just steps away from the Crest Express Lift and includes continental breakfast.
Helpful tip: You can purchase a SolBright pass which allows you to ski at both Solitude and Brighton resorts from 9 am until 4 pm for $139. There is a special access point that allows you to pass from one to the other easily.
It's a little further of a drive to Alta Ski Area, but it would be worth it if you are an advanced skier. Alta is the most expensive of the three places we've mentioned, but it's also the largest at 2,614 acres. There are over 116 runs (55% are advanced) and 6 lifts. One major drawback is that snowboarding is not allowed at Alta. There are 10 dining options at the base camp and four on the mountain. Overnight accommodations include five base lodges in addition to rentals in the town of Alta.
Last, but certainly not least, Deer Valley is also a ski-only resort with 21 lifts and 103 runs. Located in the historic mining town of Park City, Deer Valley has a variety of lodging and 17 winter dining choices. They also operate Summit Meadows Adventures which offers snowmobiling tours and rentals of snow pants and gloves.
Ski season should last into early April, so you still have plenty of time to hit the slopes. These are certainly not the only ski resorts in the Salt Lake City area.
